Zero tolerance
Vibecheck is an app for adults (18 and older) only. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and for any content or behavior that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits minors. Accounts confirmed to be involved in such activity are permanently banned by our moderation team, the content is preserved as evidence, and it is reported to the relevant authorities.
How we prevent and detect it
- Age requirement: Vibecheck may only be used by persons aged 18 or older, and account creation requires confirming this. Accounts found to belong to minors are removed as soon as we become aware of them.
- Automated photo screening: every photo uploaded to a profile or identity, and every photo sent in a chat before a match, is automatically scanned for nudity by a detector we run on our own servers. Chat photos are only delivered to the recipient after the scan has approved them. Photos that the detector flags, that it cannot analyze, or that cannot be checked because the detector is unavailable are held back and reviewed by a human instead of being shown.
- Chat moderation before a match: chats before a match are stored unencrypted so that they can be moderated. An automated content filter, including dedicated rules for content that endangers minors, blocks or flags messages. Flagged messages are reviewed by our moderation team, who can open these conversations when handling a case (every access is logged).
- End-to-end encrypted chats: after a match, conversations in the Safespace, including images, are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot scan them automatically. Users can still report these conversations and the people in them at any time.
- In-app reporting: every profile, identity, message, and photo can be reported directly in the app. “Child sexual abuse” is a dedicated report category, distinct from other report reasons.
- Immediate containment: a single report for suspected child sexual abuse from a trusted user is enough to automatically restrict the reported account right away (it can no longer send messages, start matches, create identities or upload photos, and is no longer shown to others) and to escalate the case for priority human review. We do not wait for multiple reports as we do for lower-severity issues.
- Human decision and evidence preservation: a moderator reviews every case. When content is confirmed as illegal, the moderator permanently bans the account, takes the account’s photos offline, and preserves the content in a restricted, access-controlled area so it can be provided to law enforcement or NCMEC.
- Ban evasion: bans also cover the device used. A new account on a banned device is automatically banned for 7 days and reviewed by a moderator, who decides on a permanent ban. If a banned account is deleted and the same Google account signs up again, the original ban is re-attached.
Reporting to authorities
Confirmed CSAM is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and, where applicable, to the competent law enforcement authorities. We cooperate with law enforcement investigations into child safety on our platform.
